Everything began in 2018 when Alessio Carbone, Principal Dancer of the Paris Opera Ballet, whose artistic sensibility is deeply influenced by the work of Maurice Béjart, established a strong professional relationship with New Caledonian choreographer Sthan KABAR-LOUET, himself a former member of the Béjart Ballet Lausanne.
From this encounter emerged an unprecedented artistic collaboration in New Caledonia. Under the artistic coordination of Alessio Carbone, his collective "The Italians of the Paris Opera" captivated New Caledonian audiences over six prestigious performances, presenting a level of artistic excellence rarely seen in the Pacific region.
Following this remarkable success in Nouméa in August 2018, the Paris Opera Ballet returned in 2022 and again in 2023 for a third edition. Each season featured a new cast of internationally acclaimed dancers, joined by principal artists from the National Opera of Kyiv, The Royal Ballet of London, the Royal Danish Ballet, and Dutch National Ballet.
These extraordinary encounters, taking place at the farthest reaches of the world and bringing together dancers from some of the most prestigious ballet schools and companies internationally, gave rise to unique and breathtaking programmes. Each edition offered an eclectic blend of classical, neoclassical, and contemporary dance, showcasing the richness and diversity of the choreographic arts.
Having become one of the highlights of New Caledonia's cultural calendar, the event now attracts more than 3,000 spectators at each edition.
Alongside the performances, an extensive Master Class programme is organized, bringing together more than one hundred local students each year, from passionate amateurs to aspiring professional dancers.
These projects are made possible through the support of New Caledonian public institutions and the commitment of loyal corporate partners and sponsors.
