On May 13, 2024, New Caledonia saw its daily life profoundly disrupted.
Beyond the events themselves, lives, families, landmarks and certainties were deeply shaken. Faced with this reality, a necessity emerged: to create.
To create in order to understand.
To create in order to bear witness.
To create in order to transform pain into poetry.
The Silent Cry of the Flowers is a contemporary dance work that sensitively explores themes of exile, resilience, memory and hope.
Performed by nine dancers from L'Avant-Scène Centre de Danse, this creation invites audiences on an emotional journey where the body becomes a language when words are no longer enough. Through sixteen choreographic tableaux, the performers give voice to the unspeakable, evoking the invisible wounds left by human crises while celebrating the remarkable capacity of human beings to rise again and rebuild.
Without political discourse, without judgment, and without claiming to explain a complex reality, The Silent Cry of the Flowers asks a universal question:
What remains when everything seems to collapse?
Humanity.
Combining contemporary dance, poetic imagery, evocative scenography and captivating music, the work transforms silence into movement, sorrow into hope, and fragility into strength.
Following an initial creative stage presented in 2025, The Silent Cry of the Flowers now takes the form of a full-length 90-minute production and is preparing to reach a new milestone with its international premiere at the Thomas Dixon Centre in Brisbane, home of the prestigious Queensland Ballet, on 29 and 30 August 2026.
Through this artistic journey, Sthan KABAR-LOUET and the dancers of L'Avant-Scène seek to share a deeply human message: one of resilience, dialogue and hope.
