The KABAR-LOUET Dance Theater is a contemporary dance collective founded by New Caledonian choreographer Sthan KABAR-LOUET.
Born from more than twenty years of artistic education, creation and transmission at L'Avant-Scène Centre de Danse in Nouméa, this project emerged from a simple ambition: to provide dancers trained in New Caledonia with opportunities to engage in ambitious choreographic productions and to showcase their work beyond the borders of their island home.
Over the years, L'Avant-Scène has guided several generations of dancers through their artistic journeys, developing a demanding pedagogical approach that embraces both classical repertoire and contemporary creation. From this experience grew the desire to bring together performers capable of engaging in meaningful artistic projects that encourage dialogue, reflection and human connection.
Today, the KABAR-LOUET Dance Theater brings together dancers who have emerged from this shared artistic and human adventure. More than a traditional dance company, it is a creative collective that places people, artistic transmission and creative commitment at the heart of its work.
Its productions explore themes that resonate across contemporary societies: memory, identity, exile, resilience, intercultural dialogue and the human capacity to rebuild in the face of adversity.
The group's first production, The Silent Cry of the Flowers, was inspired by the events that profoundly affected New Caledonia in 2024. Through sixteen choreographic tableaux performed by nine dancers, this contemporary work explores themes of loss, hope and reconstruction.
The presentation of the production at the Thomas Dixon Centre in Brisbane, home of the Queensland Ballet, in August 2026 marks an important milestone in the development of the KABAR-LOUET Dance Theater and in its ambition to bring New Caledonian choreographic creation to international audiences.
Through each of its productions, the KABAR-LOUET Dance Theater seeks to build bridges between territories, cultures and generations, driven by the belief that dance remains a universal language capable of bringing people together beyond their differences.
